Footfall data reveals Belfast best performing UK city
New footfall data, released by the NI Retail Consortium and Sensormatic IQ, reveals that Belfast was the best performing UK city in June.
It is thought that festival season, with events like Belsonic, the arrival of a wave of cruise ship visitors, and an influx of Republic of Ireland visitors looking cheaper food and drink all contributed. Year-on-year footfall in Belfast increased by 3.7%. Over the same period just 3 other major UK cities posted increases (Edinburgh, Glasgow & Liverpool) – all smaller than in Belfast. The likes of Cardiff was down 5.1%, London down 2.5% and Manchester down 0.9%.
Overall, Northern Ireland footfall decreased by 0.6% in June (up from -3.0% in May) but still performed better than England and Wales and only slighter worse than Scotland.
