Classic FM’s Race to the Arctic with HX Hurtigruten Expeditions sets sail on Friday 12th September at 9pm on Classic FM and Global Player

Classic FM, the UK’s most popular classical music station, is joining with leading expedition cruise company HX for the third series of its popular travel and classical music programme Race to…, this time, taking a musical journey to the Arctic.

Sue Perkins, one of the nation’s best loved broadcasters, comedians and travel presenters, returns to Classic FM at the helm of Classic FM’s Race to the Arctic with HX Hurtigruten Expeditions, which departs on Friday (12th September).

Every Friday at 9pm for the next four weeksSue will take listeners on a fascinating musical expedition to the breathtaking Svalbard archipelago, high above the Arctic Circle, exploring cities, countries and continents, whilst celebrating classical music connections along the way. The series starts where the second series, Race to the Galápagos Islands, finished.

Listeners will join Sue to travel through iconic destinations – many visited on HX’s voyages – from AlaskaNorthwest PassageGreenlandIceland and NorwaySue will delve into the rich cultural heritage of each region, discovering classical masterpieces that originated in, or were inspired by, the truly breathtaking destinations, such as Dances in the Canebrakes by Florence Price, The Lord of the Rings by Howard Shore and Peer Gynt by Edvard Grieg.

To accompany the new series, Classic FM is launching a brand-new curated playlist on Global Player, the official Classic FM app – titled The Best of Sue Perkins’ Classical Expedition – featuring music from all three Race to… series, alongside special content from Sue.
