Global, the Media & Entertainment group, and Chalk & Blade announce the brand new podcast, Theatre of Crime, in partnership with Dentsu Entertainment.
Hosted by actors and true crime fans Pearl Mackie (Doctor Who), Emma Sidi (Starstruck) and Kiell Smith-Bynoe (Ghosts), Theatre of Crime is an original true crime meets audio drama podcast, as the hosts get into the character of those who were at the heart of one of London’s biggest public murder mysteries of all time.
On the morning of the 12th of September 1907, 22-year-old part-time sex worker Emily Dimmock was found with her throat cut, locked inside her Camden Town apartment.
Emily’s murder goes to trial at the newly opened Old Bailey and, for the first time, the media and the public were co-opted to hunt down and find the murderer…
Robert Wood, a middle-class man and potentially a client of Emily, tangles himself up in a messy alibi which unravels throughout the trial. His guilt or innocence divides public opinion as the class system swings into full gear.
This is a story set within a lost underworld of London’s bohemian crowd whose antics shocked high society and the public lapped up every detail.
For the first time ever, the most dramatic and shocking scenes from one of the most famous courtrooms in the world will be brought to life, as Pearl, Emma and Kiell perform and react in real-time, to the newly unearthed court transcripts, police records and witness testimonies from the trial.
In a world reeling from Jack the Ripper, could this be another one of his victims? Or a jealous lover? Was this a burglary gone wrong or a crime of passion?
Listeners will have the opportunity to hear every detail of the gruesome case including questionable police work, key witness testimonies that led to public shaming and what really happened when the main suspect took the stand, plus the final verdict which created a media frenzy.
“I’m thrilled to launch Theatre of Crime, a groundbreaking podcast where true crime meets audio drama in real time. Pearl, Emma, and Kiell uncover the case details as we listen, taking us on the adventure of solving this fascinating mystery together.
With Global and Chalk & Blade’s combined audio and storytelling expertise, we’re perfectly placed to do this gripping story justice.”
