Audience insight shows strong support for the Fleadh
From 2nd–9th August 2026, Belfast will host the Fleadh, with around 800,000 people expected to attend, creating a major moment for the city, its communities and its businesses. Our work.shop.play. audience insight community shows strong local positivity ahead of the event: 55% say the Fleadh is for everyone in Belfast, regardless of background, while 54% say they are proud the city is hosting it. Cultural impact is also clear, with 74% viewing the Fleadh as an important showcase for local music and culture. Commercially, 79% believe hosting the Fleadh will be good for local businesses. Altogether, the findings point to a high-profile occasion set to drive civic pride, cultural visibility and strong audience engagement across Belfast. Additional public transport services in place for the Fleadh
Belfast’s public transport network will play a central role during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, as the city prepares to welcome more than 800,000 visitors from 2nd to 9th August. A car-free zone will operate across parts of the city centre, with attendees encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport. Translink is increasing capacity and frequency across Ulsterbus, Metro and Glider services, supported by revised NI Railways timetables and additional late-night services on 2nd August and from 6th to 9th August. 3 Park and Ride sites at the Eikon Exhibition Centre, Giant’s Park and Belfast Harbour will also support access into the city. With more than 200 events planned across Belfast, the expanded network will connect visitors with venues, neighbourhoods and evening activity throughout the festival.

Hollister set to grow its Northern Ireland presence
Hollister’s planned second Northern Ireland store is another positive signal for the local retail market. With plans submitted for The Boulevard in Banbridge, the move extends the brand’s footprint beyond its long-standing Belfast store. It also follows news that sister brand Abercrombie & Fitch is preparing to open its first standalone Belfast store later this summer. Taken together, the developments reflect continued confidence in physical retail and underline the appeal of well-established shopping locations as brands look to strengthen their presence and connect with consumers in person. The Boulevard in Banbridge recorded its best year on record in 2025, with sales up +11.5% and footfall up +12.3% versus 2024.
